A NEW TITLE FOR KIM/SEO
In a match dominated by the Indonesians from the outset, the crowd at the Glaz Arena was surprised to see Korea's KIM Won Ho/SEO Seung Jae (No. 1, Korea), who were surprisingly struggling in defence, caught off guard by their opponents' repeated and incisive attacks. They couldn't find any solutions and seemed completely lost on the court, which was unlike them. It must be said that ALFIAN and FIKRI (No. 7, Indonesia) gave them no time to breathe. The game was fast-paced and the attacks came thick and fast. The first set was one-sided, with the Indonesians winning comfortably 21-10.
But the world No. 1 pair reacted quickly and well. The first set served as a lesson. They now took control of the match. More reactive in defence and more varied in their shots, they forced the Indonesian pair to move around, preventing them from setting up their offensive game. In complete control, the Koreans took the second set (21-13) and levelled the match.
The final, decisive set confirmed the Koreans' superiority. They took the lead from the start and were never caught or even threatened. In their first appearance together at the Yonex French International Badminton Championships, they took the title by winning the final 10-21, 21-13, 21-12.
The Indonesians may be kicking themselves for letting a second consecutive final slip away, after losing to Denmark last week. On the contrary, the Koreans have added another title to their career. What an incredible performance when you consider that the pair have been playing together for less than a year!
