Queen AN Se Young

The final of the 2025 Yonex French Open women's singles sees the world number 1 and number 2 battle it out for the title. AN Se Young (No. 1, South Korea), defending champion and Olympic champion, is clearly the favourite against WANG Zhi Yi (No. 2, China), as she already leads 14-4 in their head-to-head matches. The Korean player took full advantage of this undeniable psychological edge, literally dominating the match and winning convincingly 21-13, 21-7.

It was a close start to the final between the two players. The rallies were hard-fought and neither player gained the upper hand, either in terms of scoring or control of the game. AN Se Young (No. 1, Korea) even made a few mistakes that allowed China's WANG Zhi Yi (No. 2, China) to stay in the game. The Korean leads only 11-9 at the break, without being dominant in the rallies. WANG Zhi Yi is trying to put the Korean under pressure by forcing her to move around and, above all, preventing her from attacking. The Chinese player was patient, preferring to play at the net, which her opponent did not like. But the world number 1 has experience, despite being only 23, and tightened up her game to remind everyone of her current supremacy in the women's singles. She then raised her level of play. She was impenetrable in defence. Her movement was clean and she was rarely late to the shuttlecock, unlike the Chinese player, who sometimes struggled to reach the shuttlecock at the back of the court, surprised by the Korean's shots. AN Se Young finally won the first set 21-13.

Poor WANG Zhi Yi can do nothing more. AN Se Young is everywhere. While neither player dominated at the start of the match, it is now clear that the Korean is undoubtedly the maestro of this encounter. She wins easily, 21/13 21/7.

AN Se Young thus clinches her third title at the Yonex French Open Badminton Championships, having already shone in 2019 and 2024. The future looks bright for the 23-year-old player.

South Korea's AN Se Young is proud to have managed to control her match right to the end: "I kept playing my game without letting my opponent dominate the rallies. I gave it my all. The goal was to avoid making mistakes and stay focused. I couldn't give up, and I'm very happy that it worked out. I'm delighted to have won the competition today."

WANG Zhi Yi admitted defeat and acknowledged her opponent's superiority today: ‘I made quite a few mistakes. But it's true that she also played very well. Well done to her! She was definitely the best today.’
