The first match-ups revealed
Men's singles
The French players, Alex LANIER, Christo POPOV and Toma Junior POPOV, will all be in the top half of the draw. World No. 7 Alex will be seeded seventh in the French Open and will play his first match against Indonesia's Alwi FARHAN (No. 17), whom he already beat this summer in Japan. The eighth seed, Christo (No. 8), will play CHI Yu Jen (No. 25, Taipei) for the first time. His brother, Toma Junior POPOV (No. 15), will also face a player from Taipei, LEE Chia Hao (No. 22), to whom he lost in 2024. The brothers could meet in the quarter-finals, while at the same stage, Alex could cross paths with reigning World Champion SHI Yu QI (China). The world No. 1 will be eagerly awaited at the Glaz Arena, where he will defend his title after winning the 2024 edition. He will play his first round against Taipei player WAN Tzu Wei (No. 29).
Women's singles
The world No. 1 and reigning Olympic champion will be in Rennes! AN Se Young (South Korea) will defend her title at the Glaz Arena, starting against India's Anmol KHARB (No. 46). She could face reigning world champion Akane YAMAGUCHI (No. 3, Japan) in an explosive semi-final! As for the European players, they will almost all be facing each other. Denmark's Line Højmark KJAERSFELDT (No. 20) will take on Scotland's Kirsty GILMOUR (No. 31), Line CHRISTOPHERSEN (No. 28, Denmark) will face Yvonne LI (No. 52, Germany) and Neslihan ARIN (No. 40, Turkey) will take on Polina BUHROVA (No. 45, Ukraine). For Mia Blichfeldt (No. 21, Denmark), while her first match against American Beiwe Zhang (No. 24) looks winnable, she could well face AN Se Young in the second round!
Men's doubles
Two French pairs will be competing at the Yonex IFB! Christo and Toma Junior POPOV (No. 18) will face Daniel LUNDGAARD/Mads VESTERGAARD (No. 30) in the first round. The French pair, who have won their last two matches against the Danes, could face ALFIAN/FIKRI (No. 7) in the second round and their compatriots Eloi ADAM/Léo ROSSI (No. 34) in the quarter-finals. For that to happen, Éloi and Léo will have to defeat the Malaysians ARIF/YAP (No. 20) in the first round, whom they have never beaten before. The Indian pair Satwiksairaj RANKIREDDY/Chirag SHETTY (No. 6), favourites with the French public, will also be in action! They face the new Indonesian pair Muhammad Rian ARDIANTO/Rahmat HIDAYAT in what promises to be an exciting match!
Women's doubles
Margot LAMBERT and Camille POGNANTE (No. 32) will have a first round within their reach. Facing Malaysian pair ONG Xin Yee/Carmen TING (No. 34), the French pair will be keen to go as far as possible in the Yonex French Open. The defending French Open champions, CHEN Qing Chen/JIA Yi Fan (No. 23, China), who split up after winning gold at the Olympic Games, reunited at the end of September. Seeded 5th in the competition, they will be aiming to get back on the podium. However, the Chinese pair LIU/TAN (No. 1), reigning World Champions, will also be in contention for the title!
Mixed doubles
At home, Thom GICQUEL and Delphine DELRUE (No. 6) will have high ambitions for the Yonex IFB 2025. After winning bronze at the World Championships, the Breton and his partner will be aiming for the podium once again. In the first round, they will face Thailand's Ruttanapak OUPTHONG/Jhenicha SUDJAIPRAPARAT (No. 14). Although their last encounter went in favour of the Thais, Thom and Delphine have won two of their three matches against them. For Julien MAIO and Léa PALERMO (No. 45), it will be a different story. The French pair will face the world No. 1s and World Championship runners-up, JIANG Zhen Bang/WEI Ya Xin (China), who already won the Yonex IFB in 2023 in Rennes.
